A refreshingly simple film, Canolais a poignant tale of the bond between a grandparent and grandchild who after many years of separation must adjust to living together all over again. Helmed by director Chang, this feel-good family drama boasts a star-studded cast with the delightful Youn Yeo-Jeong as Gye-choon, an adorably spirited grandmother and Kim Go-eun as Hye-ji, her wayward granddaughter. Adding to the elite line-up, Minho from one of Korea’s hottest boy bands SHINee makes his first big screen appearance charming audiences as Hye-ji’s classmate and love interest.

On the idyllic Jejudo Island youngster Hye-ji  lives with her grandmother  Gye-choon (Youn).  Hye-ji’s parents and are no longer in her life and diver Gye-choon supports her granddaughter by selling the clams and fish she catches. One day whilst visiting the market, Hye-ji goes missing. Devastated, Gye-choon spends her days in search of her and yearns for her return. But the youngster never does. Twelve years on and an older Hye-ji (Kim) is living on the streets with a gang of juvenile delinquents. After getting into trouble with the law, she comes across a notice in search of a missing child. She responds to the flyer and is soon reunited with Gye-choon on the island paradise that’s filled with blossoming canola flowers. But having endured a tough life on city streets, Hye-ji is no longer the innocent little girl Gye-choon remembers but a strong-willed youth troubled by a difficult past. Rebellious and labelled a bad girl by Jejudo townsfolk, how much of the new Hye-ji can Gye-choon embrace?
