Synopsis: This film, which deals with the emotional turmoil of dementia, is based on a novel by the prominent and award-winning Japanese writer Kyoko Nakajima. In fact, Nakajima based the story on her own experience of caring for her father. Directed by Ryota Nakano (Capturing Dad, Her Love Boils Bathwater), A Long Goodbye stars acting legend Tsutomu Yamazaki (Kagemusha, The Emperor in August) as well as Chieko Matsubara (My Way of Life), Yuko Takeuchi (The Magnificent Nine) and Yu Aoi (Hula Girls).

Shohei (Yamazaki) is a retired school principal and as he and his wife (Matsubara) gather his family to celebrate his 70th birthday he reveals to his two daughters (Takeuchi, Aoi) that he is suffering from dementia. While losing his memory is upsetting and confusing for his family, the situation also reveals that one particularly happy memory which the three ladies had long forgotten is still alive and well in Shohei.
