The Great Detective





The Great Detectiveis based on the Huo Sang series of detective novels by Chinese writer Cheng Xiao Quing in which the main protagonist has been referred to as the “Sherlock Holmes of the East”. It is directed by Hong Kong-born Roy Chow Hin-yeung (Murderer, Nightfall) and stars Mandopop singer and actor Han Geng (So Young, Ex-Files), Yin Zheng (Impossible, Never Say Die) and Hong Kong singer and actress Carina Lau (Days of Being Wild, Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame).


In The Golden City, a metropolis located between Russia and China, a murder occurs with the purpetrator leaving behind no clues. Huo Sang (Han) is a renowned private detective who, flanked by his trusty sidekick Bao Lang (Yin), accepts a fortune in gold from powerful businesswoman Lady Jia (Lau) to solve the murder. The apparent culprit turns out to be a thief known as the “face-shifter” and his ability to change his appearance has made him impossible to catch. Eager to assist Huo and Bao is Bai Mudan (Zhang), a bank teller and wannabe sleuth who is a great admirer of the detective. And so the trio set out to capture the criminal but in the process find themselves being stalked by a mysterious blonde woman.
