The Founding of An Army

“The Founding of an Army” is a film that paid tributes to the 90thanniversary of the establishment of the People’s Liberation Army of China.  The film accounted the start of a military force as a result of a revolution by the Chinese Communist Party; and the battles which the Party faced in the 1920s.  Directed by Andrew Lau (“Revenge of the Green Dragons”, 2014), the film is supported by all-star casts including Liu Ye (“Cock and Bull”, 2016) as Mao Zedong, Zhu Yawen (“The Golden Era”, 2014) as Zhou Enlai; and Huang Zhizhong (“Infernal Affairs 3”, 2003) as Zhu De.

In 1927, a revolution began in Shanghai when the Chinese Communist Party and the labor organizations it represented were suppressed.  In July 1927, Zhou Enlai set up and organized the Nanchang Uprising which marked the start of a mighty military force.

On the trek south, the Nanchang Uprising faced internal bickering and attacks from Kuomintang forces.  The Nanchang Uprising forces faced imminent defeat with a setback in Chaoshan.  Deputy commander Zhu De decided to fight at Sanhe Dam in order to buy time for the remaining forces to split up.

In April 1928, Zhu De led his men to join Mao Zedong and the Autumn Harvest Uprisings in Jinggang Mountain andformed the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Army which later became the People’s Liberation Army.
