A Nail Clipper Romance

Shot on location in scenic Hawaii, this movie was adapted from a short story by co-producer Pang Ho-cheung and is the directorial debut by veteran cinematographer Jason Kwan. Kwan is a five-time Hong Kong Film Awards nominee, with works such as Cold War 2.

Chinese-American amateur surfer Sean (Joseph Chang) is a hopeless romantic. When he wipes out on his surfboard in Hawaii, his friends, family and colleagues all assume it was a post-break-up suicide attempt. Not long after, he meets a kind-hearted tattoo artist named Emily (Zhou Dong-yu). Emily is beautiful, yet down-to-earth, a good girl with a playful side.

All seems well until one day, Emily confesses that she is a “nail clipper monster”, a special sub-type of humans that only eats nail clippers. To prove her point, she explains the origins and social rules of the nail clipper monsters, and reveals that even a famous historical figure was part of the gang. When Sean confides in his friends, they urge him to test Emily. Can love help Sean to override his suspicions and make him trust her and this tall tale?
