Love Contractually

Hong Kong pop icon Sammi Cheng and Taiwanese heartthrob Joseph Chang bring sparks to the silver screen in this feature debut by Liu Guonan, the Chinese filmmaker best known for his work on Zhang Yimou’s films.

At 34 years old, beautiful CEO Katrina (Sammi Cheng) has lost all hope of romance after finding her fiancé (Terence Yin) in bed with a secretary. Not to be beaten down, she sets out to look for a partner who can provide his DNA for a child – but in the guise of a well-paid personal assistant job.  The search seems hopeless until she encounters the good-looking Bo (Joseph Chang), a courier who is perfect for the secret assignment. With a stellar profile that includes hobbies such as a love for vintage motorcycles and experience as a paratrooper, Bo lands the job. The obsessive-compulsive Katrina turns out to be the worst boss ever, but Bo manages to keep his cool and unexpectedly passes the probation period. Naturally, Bo is dumbfounded when Katrina reveals his key assignment! Despite Katrina’s pretenses to act cold towards him, Bo finds her to be a kind-hearted person, and their chemistry grows. When the duo head to Paris, Katrina falls pregnant but decides to leave Bo, on account of her fears of being hurt again. Bo returns home deflated, but misses Katrina dearly, and makes a precious gift for her and the baby. He is elated when Katrina sends him a message, saying “I need you”. Only when he arrives in Paris does he discover the truth behind the message.
