Final Recipe


Six years after her cross-cultural marital drama Never Forever, director Gina Kim returns with this impressive, feel-good story packed with luscious imagery and sumptuous gastronomic pleasures. Starring Canadian-born Korean pop idol Henry Lau and acclaimed actress and producer Michelle Yeoh, Kim’s high stakes tale of food, family and competition focuses on a teenager who uses his university savings in an effort to save his grandfather’s failing restaurant.  

Hao’s (Chang Tseng) only hope is that his grandson Mark (Lau) enters a prestigious university but Mark’s dream is to follow his grandfather’s footsteps and become a chef and take over the family restaurant. When his son left him years earlier, Hao’s passion for cooking also fled and adding to his troubles his health is failing and his restaurant on the verge of bankruptcy.In order to save his grandfather’s legacy, Mark uses his university savings to secretly enter “Final Recipe”, a televised cooking competition taking place in Shanghai. The series pits talented contestants against one another with the goal of the winner being crowned master chef. Winning round after round, Mark gains the attention of executive producer Julia Lee (Yeoh) who begins to see his talent and potential. However before he can reach lay claim to the top prize, Mark must face a final showdown with David (Chin Han), an equally talented competitor who just happens to be Julia’s husband.
