A Chinese Odyssey Part Three

Twenty-seven years after the release of the two-part film, acclaimed Hong Kong director Jeffrey Lau brings to life the final installment of a trilogy based on the much-beloved Chinese literary classic, “Journey to the West”. Opening in China during the Mid-Autumn long weekend, this film garnered USD 17.3 million over the three days weekend, which climbed to 33.3 million in five days, easily topping the Chinese box office!

In the conclusion to this fantasy adventure, which previously featured comedy king Stephen Chow, Zixia (Tiffany Yan) uses the Pandora’s box to see into the future, only to find that there will be a battle between the immortals and mankind. To avert disaster, Princess Zixia travels back in time to attempt to persuade the Monkey King to fall in love with Bak Jing-jing (Karen Mok), rather than herself. After much failure, Zixia marries the Bull King (Zhang Chao) as his concubine, in order to escape the Joker’s clutches. In swoops the deeply jealous Iron Fan Princess (Xie Nan), who intervenes and delays the wedding.

Just as the Bull King is about to marry Zixia, the Monkey King makes an impromptu entry and challenges the Bull King and his cohort of demons. Will the Monkey King finally win his bride, and succeed in his mission to protect the Longevity Monk (Wu Jing) and the rest of the pilgrims?
