Adapted from a true story that rocked the Internet world and instantly captured the attention of national and international media, the heart-breaking account of a young Japanese couple’s “miracle wedding” posted on YouTube is portrayed by Takeru Satoh and Tao Tsuchiya on the silver screen.

Hisashi (Satoh) and Mai (Tsuchiya) are a happy couple in their twenties who are engaged to be married. Three months before their wedding, Mai becomes seriously ill. Her heart stops momentarily and she falls into a deep coma.

Hisashi visits Mai in hospital every day. With no idea if or when she will ever awake, Mai’s parents encourage Hisashi to find someone else, but he refuses to give up and continues to pray for her recovery. Several years later, Mai begins to regain consciousness and even utters a few words. Tragically, she has suffered brain damage and has no memory of Hisashi.

Mai undergoes rehabilitation and eventually is able to venture outside. Hisashi takes her to places they frequented in an attempt to jog her memory, but she still cannot remember who he is. Hisashi grows fearful that he may be burdening her and they break up. Later, Mai learns that every year since she fell ill, Hisashi continued to renew their wedding venue reservation. Realising the depth of his love for her, she begins to search for him.
