Based on award-winning author Kiyoshi Shigematsu’s 1996 novel of the same titleand starring international star Tadanobu Asano (Thor, Silence), Dear Etrangeris a heart-rending family drama about a divorcee who faces different family issues while trying to build a new family with his second wife.

44-year-old Makoto (Tadanobu Asano)split withhis first wife four years ago when they could not agree on a second child. He remarried Nanae (Rena Tanaka) who also happened to be divorcee. Nanae left her alcoholic husband Sawada because he beat her and her two young daughters.Makoto tries to be a good step-father to Nanae’s daughters.At the same time,he continues to see his daughter Saorifrom his previous marriage, whocurrentlylives with her mother and new stepfather.

But when Nanae announces that she is pregnant, Makoto wonders out loud whetheranother childis necessary, and the fissures in their marriage, already visible, widen.It would take Makoto and Nanae more than just love to hold their family together.
