Fueled: The Man They Called “Pirate”

Based on the best-selling Japanese historical novel by Naoki Hyakuta, which has sold over 1.7 million copies, this heart-warming live-action adaptation directed by Takashi Yamazaki (“Parasyte Part 1/2") stars Japanese boy-band heartthrob Junichi Okada, Haruka Ayase and Japan Academy Award Best Actor Hidetaka Yoshioka ("Always - Sunset on Third Street"). Okada has been nominated for a Best Actor award in the 40thJapan Academy awards for his role in this movie.

In a time when the main energy source was still coal, one visionary saw the future in oil. Young Tetsuzo Kunioka (Junichi Okada) blazes his way into the oil business, only to find numerous challenges and competitors who stand in his way. Despite the major oil companies who sought to derail his efforts, Tetsuzo is undaunted, persevering with his eccentric actions but a caring heart for his employees. Finally, as Japan faces its post-war challenges, foreign oil companies bear down on Tetsuzo, and all oil transportation routes are sealed off. The besieged Tetsuzo makes an “insane move” to secretly ship his only large-scale oil tanker, the “Nissho Maru”, where he makes an ally with the receiving country but now finds himself at odds with England. As he faces off in his biggest fight against the oil majors, can the Nissho Maru stay under the English fleet’s radar, or will he forever be known in history as a pirate?
