Shippu Rondo

Synopsis: Teruyuki Yoshida brings to the big screen the much-anticipated film adaption of the novel, Rondo of the Squall. The bestseller was penned by Japan’s most popular author, Keigo Higashino, who is also the winner of multiple literary awards, including the 134th Naoki Prize.

Kazuyuki Kuribayashi (Hiroshi Abe, recipient of the 36th Japan Academy Award for Best Actor for Thermae Romae) is an ordinary university researcher who is mediocre in his job and awkward at home and he also struggles to raise his teenage son.

It's just another day at work for Kuribayashi, that’s until a top-secret biological weapon is stolen from the university lab. Soon after, the lab director receives an anonymous email claiming the entire nation has been held hostage and the ransom is three million yen.

With only four days till the nation becomes annihilated, the hapless Kazuyuki becomes privy to a piece of information that sends him reluctantly on the hunt for the missing bio weapon. Things go even more awry when the perpetrator is suddenly found dead. Just when it seems that all is lost, information is found among the criminal’s personal effects that points north to Japan’s largest ski resort. With the clock ticking, resting squarely on the shoulders of a slightly incompetent, middle-aged lab rat who can’t ski, is the future of the nation!
