After his success with the dark family comedy “Ma Wen’s Battle”, director Chang Zheng presents “Explosion”, a gritty drama which was selected as the closing film of the 2017 Shanghai International Film Festival. Excelling in his role as a fearless mining expert forced to go on the run is directors’ favourite Duan Yihong who in recognition for his body of work recently picked up the Star Asia Award at the 16thNew York Asian Film Festival.

Zhao Xudong (Duan) is a blast technician in the mining town of Hongliang. After an underground explosion four workers are killed and Zhao, stunned and injured, is the sole survivor. But instead of being taken to hospital, he’s berated by his gangster boss Li Yi for being responsible for the incident and is offered hush money to secure his silence. Meanwhile, the victims are quickly buried.

Zhao becomes suspicious that the explosion was not an accident. As he investigates, blaster Wang Sanbai and Li Yi are murdered. Learning he’s the prime suspect, Zhao and his pregnant girlfriend Xiao Hung (Yu Nan) go on the run. But can Zhao avoid the authorities for long enough in order to clear his name?
