(マチネの終わりに)

Synopsis:

At the End of the Matinee is based on a popular novel by Keiichiro Hirano which was serialised in the major Japanese newspaper the Mainichi Shimbun. The film is directed by Hiroshi Nishitani (Hirugao: Love Affairs in the Afternoon, Suspect X) and stars actor and singer-songwriter Masahara Fukuyama (Midsummer’s Equation, Manhunt) and actress and essayist Yuriko Ishida (The Mourner, Erased).

The story begins with the meeting of classical guitarist Satoshi Makino (Fukuyama) and journalist Yoko Komine (Ishida). They are both in their forties and are drawn to each other although Yoko already has a fiancé.  Their jobs take them all over the globe. Powerless against the tides of time, missed opportunities and unexpected obstacles, their relationship comes to end. As they continue on their separate paths, their memories of each other are still deep in their hearts. Will fate ever bring them back together again?
