Bento Harassment

(今日も嫌がらせ弁当)

Synopsis:

Bento Harassmentis the film version of a highly popular Japanese blog by single mother Kaori which was gathered together in an essay which sold over 200,000 copies. The film is directed by Renpei Tsukamoto (Reon, One Missed Call 2) and stars singer and actress Ryoko Shinohara (Red Shadow, Kamikaze Girls) and Kyoko Yoshine (Kasane: Beauty and Fate, Sunflower on the Hill).

Hachijojima, a small Japanese island with beautiful blue waters and lush green mountains, is home to a single mother (Shinohara) and her high school daughter (Yoshine) who is going through a rebellious phase. The girl, who used to gladly refer to her parent as “mummy”, now totally ignores her and does not even answer when spoken to. The exasperated mother seeks revenge by using bentos, Japanese home-made lunch boxes, as her weapon.  For three long years she sends her teenage daughter to school with bentos denoted by cute mascots and accompanied by sweet messages in order to embarrass her. The daughter is appalled but gradually their bond deepens.
