Million Dollar Man

(億男)

Synopsis:

Adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name, Keishi Ohtomo’s thought-provoking drama tells the story of a man who comes into a massive lottery win, only to have the money stolen from him by his best friend.  Featuring a talented ensemble cast including Takeru Satoh (Rurouni Kenshin, 2012), Issey Takahashi (Recall, 2018), Erika Sawajiri (Eating Women, 2018), Tatsuya Fujiwara (Confession of Murder, 2017), and Kazuki Kitamura (Samurai Cat, 2014), this cautionary tale forces audiences to contemplate the true value of money.

Kazuo’s (Satoh) younger brother has gone missing, leaving behind a massive debt.  Left to settle the payment, Kazuo works two jobs in order to meet the demands of creditors.  No longer having time to spend time with his family, his wife and daughter leave him.

Life however suddenly takes a turn for the better when Kazuo is the lucky recipient of a 300-million-yen lottery win. Uneasy about the amount of money he has come into, he decides to consult his wealthy former college buddy Tsukumo (Takahashi) for advice.

The pair discuss Kazuo’s newfound riches as well as ideas on how to win back his wife and daughter.  The following day however Kazuo is plunged into despair when he discovers that not only have his winnings disappeared but so has his friend…
