(検察側の罪人)

Synopsis:

This powerful legal drama, which is an adaptation of a 2013 novel by Shusuke Shizukui, probes deeply the perennial question of exactly ‘What is justice?’. Directed and written by Masato Harada (The Emperor in August), who is known to international audiences for acting appearances in The Last Samuraiand Fearless, the film stars two of Japan’s most talented leading men, Takuya Kimura (Hero) and Kazunari Ninomiya (Letters from Iwo Jima).

Two public prosecutors, one a veteran named Mogami (Kimura) and the other a young talent, Okino (Ninomiya), are both assigned to a murder case involving a suspect that Mogami once let get away. As Mogami relentlessly pursues a conviction of the suspect, a rift gradually opens between him and Okino, who harbours doubts about the case, before leading eventually to a full rupture in their relationship over their respective ideas of justice.
