Impossibility Defense

(不能犯)

Synopsis:

Rising star Tori Matsuzaka(Gatchaman) and high-profile actress Erika Sawajiri (Helter Skelter) star inthis live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series “Funohan”, directed byKoji Shiraishi(Sadako vs. Kayako), about a contract killer who carries out his killings by using methods which are impossible to prove.

A string of unnatural deaths occur in the city. A man in a black suit is always seen at the scene of the crime. His name is Tadashi Usobuki(Tori Matsuzaka), a mysterious figure who SNS cites as “the phone booth killer.” His clients leave memos in phone booths, requesting him to kill someone. They must cite the reason and leave contact details. The victim always dies, but by illness, suicide, or accident…all “perfect crimes” for which no physical evidence remains. What makes Usobuki so successful in his work is that he uses the power of “suggestion” on his victims, basically like psychological warfare. This makes his crimes almost impossible to track.

The police are confounded and ready to give up – all except one female detective named Tomoko Tada(Erika Sawajiri). After repeated confrontations with Usobuki, it becomes clear that she is the only person he cannot manipulate. She hopes to put an end to Usobuki’s reign of terror.
