Push and Shove

New York Asian Film Festival- Uncaged Award (Best Feature Film)

Keeping dogs has become ever more common among Chinese households but in very densely-populated cities how the dogs get along with both the people around them and other pets has become for many a cause for concern. Screenwriter-turned-director Wu Nan tackles this issue in a film that stars actor, model and singer Huang Lei (Royal Treasure), Yan Ni (Monster Hunt), Han Tonsheng (12 Citizens, The Golden Eyes), Cui Xinqin (Zhu) and Tang Wei (Lust, Caution).

A beloved pet dog owned by a Beijing scriptwriter Yu Feng (Huang) becomes brutally injured when it tries to save its owner from a neighbour’s Tibetan mastiff. The mastiff’s owner is reluctant to discuss compensation and the police feel their hands are tied in the dispute. The ensuing quest for justice exposes both the best and worst sides of human nature.
