A City Called Macau

(媽閣是座城)

Synopsis:

Over the course of its 400-year history, Macau is a city that has seen tremendous changes but it is the territory’s association with gambling which is examined in this film. Helmed by the award-winning Li Shaohong (Bloody Morning, Blush), who is regarded by many as China’s top female directing talent, A City Called Macau stars Bai Baihe (Love Is Not Blind, Monster Hunt), dancer-turned-actor Huang Jue (Baober In Love), Wu Gang (Iron Man) and Geng Le (Legendary).

Mei Xiao-ou (Bai) once gave everything to Lu Jin-tong (Geng) but when she realised that he would never quit gambling she escapes to Macau in search of a new life. Armed with newfound courage and tenaciousness. Xiao-ou finds work in a casino handling high rollers from Mainland China. It is there that she meets Kevin Duan (Wu), a highly successful businessman, but she never finds the sense of security she needs from him. The disillusioned Xiao-ou is all but ready to give up on love when the sculptor Shi Qilan (Huang) enters her life. She decides to put her heart on the line once more – only to find herself a pawn in another high-stakes game.
