Synopsis:

Directed by renowned Chinese director Chen Kaige (“Together”, 2002), “Legend of the Demon Cat” is a historical fantasy about a demonic cat that causes a series of strange events during the Tang Dynasty in China. Based on the bestselling Japanese novel “Samana Kukai” written by Japanese writer Yoneyama Mineo, this blockbuster is a collaboration of the top talents in the industry from China, Japan and Hong Kong. The lead actors Huang Xuan (“The Great Wall”, 2016) who plays the Chinese poet, Shota Sometani (“Foreboding”, 2017) who plays the Japanese monk, and Sandrine Pinna who plays the beautiful Yang Guifei, deliver impressive performances. With a set that costs US$200 million and five years to build, this film will certainly bring a visually stunning experience to the audiences.

In the Tang imperial court, a Chinese poet (Huang Xuan) and a Japanese monk (Shôta Sometani) join forces to investigate the strange events associated with a demonic cat; and in the process unravel the mystery behind the death of China’s most legendary concubine, Yang Guifei (Sandrine Pinna).
